5 Reading: This week we will work on how we respond to answering questions on a test or quiz.  We will use the ACRONYM RACE. A RACE response is a structured writing strategy used to answer short-response questions completely and clearly.

The acronym stands for:

  • R - Restate: Turn the prompt or question into a statement that forms your topic sentence.
  • A - Answer: Directly and fully answer all parts of the question.
  • C - Cite: Provide specific evidence, data, or quotes from the text to support your answer.
  • E - Explain: Elaborate on how your cited evidence proves or supports your answer

5 Writing: We will be adding to our paragraphs for our HOW TO essays.  Due date is Thursday, Oct. 15th.

5 Vocab: We will wrap up unit 2 this week.

  • HOMEWORK: Pages 23-25 are due Thursday. All words must be written out to receive full credit, and at least 1 page must be completed using cursive.
  • TEST: Thursday October 8th (due to no class on Friday for Parent/Teacher conferences)
  • RESOURCES: Unit words can be found on the Vocab Google Classroom and on the sidebar of Mrs. Zvara's webpage.

6 Reading: This week we will finish the “Hatchet” book.  We will read Gary Paulsen’s autobiography “GUTS” Chapter 2 to get more insight into the background for how / why he wrote “Hatchet”.  The students are enjoying this adventure.  At this time, it’s so important to keep them reading to increase vocabulary and comprehension.  Other books in this series are Brian’s Winter, The River, Brian’s Return and Brian’s Hunt.  It might be worth a trip to the library! Next week we will wrap things up with a final project.  Details will come home soon.
