6th Grade Service Hours: All 6th grade students are required to complete 5 service hours by April 30th, 2027. You can find the form here. Hours are valid from June 2026-April 2027. 

5 Reading: We will start Realistic Fiction Book Clubs this week.  During this unit, students will meet in 2 book club groups: the one with the students who are reading the same book as them and the one where they are meeting with students who are not reading the same book.  

5 Writing: This week we will start learning about persuasive writing.  We will narrow topics, write a clear claim and write reasons to support our claim.

5 Vocab: We will wrap up unit 3 this week. 

  • HOMEWORK: Pages 33-35 are due Thursday 
  • TEST: Friday October 23rd 
  • RESOURCES: Unit words can be found on the Vocab Google Classroom and on the sidebar of Mrs. Zvara's webpage.

6 Reading:  This week we will talk about text structures - how the author organizes his/her writing.  We will practice deciding if the piece is a description, sequence, cause/effect, compare/contrast, problem/solution or persuasive.  

6 Writing: We will continue writing our argumentative piece on the pros and cons of having a 4 day school week.  

6 Vocab: We will wrap up unit 2A this week.  

  • HOMEWORK: Worksheet will be due Thursday. 
  • TEST: Friday October 23rd

Writing

6 Writing: We will continue writing our argumentative piece on the pros and cons of having a 4 day school week. 

Health

Math

We've been working really hard at our long division both with remainders and without them.  This next week we'll review place value and how to line them up in order to add and subtract with decimals. We'll also review multiplying decimals and where to place our decimal once we're finished.

6 Reading:  This week we will talk about text structures - how the author organizes his/her writing.  We will practice deciding if the piece is a description, sequence, cause/effect, compare/contrast, problem/solution or persuasive.  We will start a new book later in the week - “A Long Way From Chicago”.

Religion

This week we are looking at the Bible stories of Jesus being rejected in Nazareth and Jesus driving out an evil spirit. Tuesday's memory quiz is Mark 16:15-16, "And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." Thursday's memory quiz is 2 Timothy 3:15-17, "and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." The next sermon note is due November 10. 

Science

6th Science This week in 6th science we are starting the Topic of Minerals and Rocks in the Geosphere mainly looking at Earth’s Interior.  No major tests or assignments this week!

Social Studies

South America QUIZ Monday, October 26th.  They have an assignment they got back to study from, or can study their notes.  It isn't too long.

Quarter Class

October 19-23:  We'll complete our final unit looking at research papers in Word on Thursday and will review for a chapter quiz on Friday.  One additional assignment will be started on Friday as well.
