Week of May 11
Happy Mother’s Day! A faithful mother is certainly a gift from God! He calls parents to raise up their children in the way of the Lord, so that when they are old they will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6) Thank you to you, Moms, for desiring a heavenly eternal life for your child. By sending them to St. Paul, you are helping to ensure that your child’s foundation is built on Christ. This is truly the best gift a mother can give! May your day be blessed as you give so freely to your children.
- Milwaukee Public Museum Field Trip: We look forward to our trip on Thursday. Please ensure that your child has a paper bag lunch for our trip. We will depart at 8:45 and return about 2:15. Our lunch will be eaten at the museum.
- MAP Testing: We have our Math MAP test on Wednesday. Please be prepared with a good night’s sleep, a good breakfast, and a lot of encouragement.
- Puppy Chow & Rice Krispie Treat Sale: Our LJHA is holding their annual Puppy Chow and Rice Krispie Treat sale on Tuesday, May 13th. Puppy Chow is $3 and the Rice Krispie treats are $2. All proceeds go to supporting our sponsored students, their families, and their community through Building Hope in Haiti.
- Track and Field Help: This is the first year 3rd graders get to be at the big track, and it can be somewhat difficult for students to navigate the first time around. I have obligations in the press box and can’t monitor kids throughout the time. I’m looking for a parent or two that can monitor the students while they are getting to a from their events. This is separate from and email you may receive from Mr. Kell requesting help. He needs helpers for events while I need two to be aware of students. If you can help, please let me know!
- Chapel Offerings: For the months of April and May, our chapel offerings will be sent to support the LCC K-9 comfort dogs organization. This ministry, which began in 2008, works to help bring comfort to people through the calming presence of Golden Retrievers. Thanks to generous donors, this ministry is free for everyone they help. Our contributions can help ensure that this special service continues to be available to those who need it! Each student will also be given a Mite box to collect donations. These should be turned in by our closing chapel on Friday May 30th.
- Reading: This week, we will begin a familiar novel – Charlotte’s Web. We will dive in to character traits, vocabulary, and summarizing. This will last through the rest of the school year.
- Writing: Our last mini-unit on Narrative writing will wrap up this week. Students will work with a story mountain once again and develop their own story to put into actual story form.
- Math: This week we will start our final short unit – Describe and Analyze 2D shapes. This week’s lessons will have us describing and classifying polygons, describing quadrilaterals, and classifying quadrilaterals.
- Spelling: Each week we seek to build on what was learned previously through some reviewing. Our spelling routine will continue with words that are vocabulary words from Charlotte’s Web. Some of them are pretty big words. Memorizing this week and understanding the meaning of these words will be key.
- Religion: This week we will continue in the New Testament and explore the raising of Jairus’s Daughter and read of a beggar being healed.
- Memory Work: As we follow our weekly routine, Tuesday’s memory will be from Luther’s Small Catechism while Thursday’s relates to our Friendzy lesson. On Tuesday students will say the second part of the 2nd article of the Apostle’s Creed, and Thursday will be Proverbs 3:5-6 as it relates to our new Friendzy unit.
- Character Development: Unit 8 – Do the Next Right Thing. This unit will help us determine what the next best step is in handling conflict and making decisions.
- Weekly Quote: So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. – James 4:17
- May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. – Romans 15:13
