Mrs. Yurk's Weekly Update

Christ’s Kingdom in Motion

Updates

Auction News:  Thank you to our room parents for organizing and collecting donations for our auction basket:  coffee and cocktails.  Items can be brought to my classroom as needed, and thank you also to those who have already contributed! 🙂  The auction itself is a lot of fun, so if you’re able to attend, please do! 🙂  Be looking for more information about items in the auction, too.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are being held next week, and you’ll have the opportunity to meet with the middle school teachers as we all will be in the gym.  There are no sign-ups at this level for this first conference, and I realize there is a time commitment involved on your part.  I will do my best to keep the line to a minimum!! 🙂  Seriously, I know I speak for all of us:  we are grateful for the opportunity to support one another as we work together for your kids.

Community Service Hours Form

Writing

  • Patterns of Power: Our next unit focuses on the subjunctive mood.  The subjunctive mood verbs express a condition that is fantasy or not factual.  It is most often found in a clause beginning with the word if and ends up expressing something untrue.  Example:  If only carrot cake had more carrots in it, I’d count it as a vegetable, or at the very least, a healthy dessert.
  • Writing: We’ll finish our mini-unit on God’s Truth in Motion and begin both nonfiction and fiction summaries early next week.

Health

Math

Properties and learning how to express algebra in written form, as well as combining like terms were big things this week.  We'll spend a few more days reviewing this and one more topic before the end of the unit.  We'll test this week and move on to something new!
