Writing

  • Patterns of Power:  We are working with compound sentences that contain multiple sets of subjects and verbs, and our students are recognizing that authors use them to create relationships, so the excitement is nearly bubbling over. (See the pattern???)  Look for the assessment this week.  Grammar is a TOOL for effective communication. 🙂
  • Writing:  Our next unit will focus on developing and mastering narrative writing qualities.  To prepare for our own, we’re reviewing models of historical fiction stories to gain the overall picture of effective researching and writing strategies.  Our research and planning work will begin toward the end of this week.

PE

Please have your inside shoes, pe uniform shirt, and athletic shorts ready to go.  Also, be sure to review grading for Mr. Fischer's pe class which is available on my webpage links.

Reading

We selected the first novel we’ll read throughout the next three weeks or so, one of more than likely two to three. We’ll do nearly daily responses to our reading, and the unit will end with a final project. As I checked the nearly 100 novels out of the Grafton Library (thank the librarians when you next go!!!), most of the reading will be completed in the classroom, but many responses will be completed as homework.

Religion

This week we will review (Monday) and test (Tuesday) what we have learned about the Apostles Creed and then start to look at the Lord's Prayer. Thursday's memory is the Introduction to the Lord’s Prayer, "Our Father who art in heaven. What does this mean? With these words God tenderly invites us to believe that He is our true Father and that we are His true children, so that with all boldness and confidence we ask Him as dear children ask their dear father."  The next sermon note is due 2/9/26.
