Fourth Grade — Miss. Amy Acton

Week of 9/20-9/24

Hello, fourth grade families!

Our first full week of classes is in the books! Here is some important information for next week and what we will be covering in class.
  • Please have your Scholastic books ordered by next week Wednesday. You may order these online or by sending in your order with a check.
  • We practiced recording our reading in class and at home on reading logs this week. They should be writing down what they read and for how long. Next week, this will be considered a homework assignment for the students. Our goal is to see the progress of how our reading grows throughout the year.
  • Our Christian character trait for the week is responsibility. Our story focus is Saul.
  • Math: In math next week, we will be looking at adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers. We will also continue to find the missing numbers in addition and subtraction equations.
  • Reading: We will be finishing up our F and P testing. This is a test that each student takes individually with me that helps tell me what level they are currently reading at, and what skills we can work on with them. We will also continue our class reading of the book, Tiger Rising.  This week, we will discuss what it means to envision the story in your head and how we can make our "mental movies" while reading.
  • Religion: We will discuss Gideon and his story from Judges 6-8 in religion class.
  • Social Studies: We will review our lessons on Native American life in early Wisconsin and take a test.
  • Science: We will jump into lesson 3 of our unit study on energy and will be discussing energy transfer.
  • Writing: We will continue to build our routines for our writer's workshop. We also will be working on our Pen Pal letters to a 4th grade class in California! The kids received their first letters from their pen pals this week and will be responding next week. They are very excited :)
  • Grammar: We will be focusing on prepositional phrases.
