What is 1st Grade Learning? 

Religion

We will read about how Jesus appears in His glory and comforts His disciples. He reminds them that He is the Son of God who would suffer, die and rise so that they could go to heaven.               

Memory:  Mark 10:45 – For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Reading

We will practice our Max Lucado insect plays. 

Phonics: Vowel Teams Review

Reading Comprehension Skill:  We will practice retelling stories with characters, setting, and plot (beginning, middle and end)

Spelling: -NO SPELLING!!!

Writing

This week we will write a piece based on the book Fortunately, Unfortunately and popcorn poems.

Grammar:  Noun, verb and adjective review

Math

Unit 13:  Equal Shares – Students will understand equal share and partition shapes in halves and fourths.  

Science

Unit 1:  LIght – The students will explore with mirrors, rainbows and read about uses of light.  

Social Studies

Unit 5 – Our Nation –  The students will finish learning about where they live and why our country is special.  We will also discuss American symbols.

Reading Road Race Rally –   The reading log that was sent home will be used for our Reading Road Race Rally.  Please have your child read at least 20 minutes, 4 times a week.  A star should be colored in for each reading session.  Sheets should be turned in each Friday.  The shoebox can stay at home to keep all of the souvenirs in.  Upcoming souvenir dates:        5/11 Holz  5/18  Kiener
