Week of February 6th

It’s February!  We have made it through the longest month of the year and have some fun February things to look forward to.

  • Valentine’s Day: This year we will not be having a Valentine’s Day party.  However students will be welcome to give friends Valentine’s.  Please remember that we have 19 students in our class.  I will send a class list in the weekly email, so you have all the names.
  • Olympic Party: Instead of a Valentine’s Day Party, we will be having an Olympic party on February 18th.  This will take place with the other 3rd grade where we will play Olympic like games.  It will be a fun celebration of the 2022 Olympic Games which end on February 20th.
  • Field Trip: On Tuesday this week we will be going to Concordia University for The Little Mermaid   Please remember that masks are required for the bus and at Concordia.  Additionally hot lunch will not be available as we will eat upon our late return back to school.  Please pack a cold lunch to enjoy in the classroom.  Thanks!
  • Reading: Our 3rd unit of study begins this week which will include reading Winn Dixie.  We will be exploring characters and how they develop in stories.
  • Math: This week will be a bit slower with an investigation day on Monday and centers on Tuesday.  Then we will finish out the week learning about square numbers and area.  Keep practicing the multiplication tables for multiplication.com completion.
  • Spelling: This week’s words will focus on prefixes.  You may practice these words on Spelling City using unit 18 which has fun games and activities to learn the words.  https://spellingcity.com/users/Haas
  • Religion: Our lessons this week will continue our learning of Moses with a focus on God delivering His people across the Red Sea and feeding them in the desert.
  • Writing: Our personal narrative unit has begun.  They will be finished in the week to come as we will edit and revise with a final draft due on Friday.  Please take a look at them over the weekend.
  • Memory Work: This week’s memory is a bit on the easier side after saying all the Old Testament.  We will have a passage from Deuteronomy on Tuesday.   Thursday will be our Christian Character verse is Mark 5:36b.  Please see below for memory work.
  • Christian Character Formation Project: Our Christian Character story will focus on Jesus raising Jairus’s daughter from the dead with our virtue again being courage.
  • Weekly Quote: Do not lose heart.  Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. – 2 Corinthians 4:16-17

Always in His care,

Mrs. Haas
