Weekly Updates
We were busy this week getting ready for the 3rd/4th grade musical next Friday! We will be performing for the school at 9am and then again for all of you at 6pm. Your child should meet us in the Family Life Center at 5:45pm. Please view this note from Mrs. Bremer on what your child should wear. Your child will also have their “color” written in their assignment notebook.
If you are attending the Harvest Festival at Creekside Valley Farm tonight, please note the following information:
Harvest Festival is tonight at Creekside Valley Farm starting at 6:00pm. This is a closed event just for our St. Paul families. The corn maze will be open. All students that will be going through the corn maze must be accompanied by an adult. Students will have one entry into the corn maze and will be hand stamped prior to entry. The corn maze will be open until 7pm and the rest of the farm open till 7:30pm.
What We Did This Week
Reading: Your child should continue to bring an independent reading book with them that travels back and forth from home to school. Ideally your child should be spending an average of 20 minutes/evening reading their book. You’ll notice a reading log is now being stored in your child’s take home folder. Please make sure your child is reading an average of 20 min/day 5 days a week. If you are busy one evening, I get it. Make up for that missed day on the weekend and record it on the log. This first reading log will be due October 5th. This week our main reading focus was on identifying features of a compare/contrast text structure as well as continuing to identify main ideas and supporting details.
Writing: In the midst of MAP testing and musical rehearsals we were still able to sneak in a little bit of writing. We spent time mastering the punctuation of dialogue and started getting approval of our personal narrative planning sheets. We will start our first drafts next week. I’m looking forward to seeing how our writing comes together.
Math: We are wrapping up our unit on addition and subtraction. Next week we will have one more lesson on multi-step story problems before we start reviewing for our test. We will have our test on Thursday, October 1st.
Religion: We reviewed the stories we’ve learned from Joshua 1-8. A few of our takeaways have been that we can turn to God’s word for comfort and assurance for ourselves and for others when we face uncertain situations. We also saw God’s warnings about sin and the potential destruction it can cause – as well as the many blessings he showers on those that are faithful to him.
Spelling: Our next spelling test will be this Tuesday, September 29th.
Social Studies:We finished our lesson on the Southeastern Native Americans. Up next we will learn about life for the Native Americans living in the great plains.
