For the Week of February 27

Dear Families, 

This was a short and crazy week!  Ice storm, TWOsday, hot chocolate….wow! What a great week!

Next WEEK: We have INTEREST Day on Friday.  Students will get their papers on Monday to see what sessions they were able to get into.  Interest day is a great way to learn new things.

This Past Week:

This week we continued our study of Moses and God’s plan for him and the Israelites in the desert.  This week we learned about how God gave Moses the Ten Commandments and how the impatient Isrealites worshipped the golden calf instead.   I am using clips from the cartoon Prince of Egypt and the old 1956 movie the Ten Commandments to show some parts of the story.  For Reading, we began our next unit Character Studies, which helps the students take a deeper look into why authors wrote the characters in the books they read.  Our Mentor Text is Because of Winn-Dixie, which provides a great illustration of character development.  In Science, we investigated more about climates around the world.  The students were also placed into Reading Book Clubs and will get to read a book as a group.  We finally began our group Biome study.  Presentations will be next week and the TEST is on Thursday.

Next week:

Christian Character Formation Project will be about Jesus and the Transfiguration    Our virtue is RESPECT: Respect is God’s power for you to honor Him and others. We strive to answer the question: How can you respect Jesus as He shows you more of who He is?

A peek ahead is the start of Lent on Wednesday.  In math we focus on more Geometry concepts. Many students are well on thier way up the quest to become a Multiplication NINJA. HOWEVER, some really need to practice their FACTS!!! Keep working on it!!  We continue our new UNIT:  Character Studies in reading.  We will wrap up Climates in Science. Wednesday is ASH WEDNESDAY!  Pastor Maschke will be leading chapel and will apply ashes to the students if they would like. (forehead or hand)
