We began reading Okay for Now by Gary Schmidt where our main character, Doug, has just moved to Marysville, a small town in upstate New York.  Here he faces adjusting to a new setting, meeting his brother as a returning Vietnam veteran, and escaping a cycle of hurt while at the same time discovering hidden talents, genuine friendship, and the strength that comes when others believe in him.  Schmidt also weaves the works of Audubon’s Birds of America into the lives and circumstances of our characters, connecting themes.  Expect nearly daily reading reflections as well as thematic reader responses, both of which will be found on Google Classroom.
