Mrs. Behling’s Weekly Update 9/3

Weekly Updates

Thanks again for taking the time to come to our parent meeting on Tuesday.  I’m looking forward to a successful 4th grade year. Great job getting the brown envelopes returned right away this week.

What We Did This Week

Reading: Your child should have an independent reading book with them that travels back and forth from home to school.  Ideally your child should be spending an average of 20 minutes/evening reading their book.  This week in class we introduced our unit vocabulary words and learned to recognize some of the characteristics and structures of an informational text.

Writing: This week we looked at some details within sample personal narratives as we began to brainstorm ideas for our own personal narrative.  We also finished our first round of pen pal letters this week.

Math: We are working through a short unit on place value.  This week we learned how to write numbers up to the millions period in word form, expanded form, and standard form.  We reviewed strategies on how to compare numbers and practiced rounding numbers as well.  We will review all of our skills on Tuesday and Wednesday and have our first math test on Thursday.

Religion: This week we read about Hannah and Sammuel.  The kids took a moment to appreciate that they live in families that are teaching and training them to follow and serve God.

Spelling: Our spelling test this week will focus on the rules for adding the following suffixes to words: s, ed, ing, er, and est.

Social Studies: We started to prepare our presentations for our September 11th interviews.  We will be working on these in class on Tuesday and Wednesday as well.  Our goal is to start presentations on Thursday.
