Back to School: Routines are good, and we are working hard to develop them within our classroom. As you can expect some assimilate faster than others. Maybe you have your own routines that you are working on at home. What about your faith walk? While faith shouldn’t become so routine that it is taken for granted, we should still have some routine. Perhaps you attend worship regularly. Perhaps you read the Bible or do a devotion routinely. Whatever may be the case, I certainly do hope it is a routine for you and your family.
- Back to School Night: On Tuesday, adults should join to hear from Mr. Yurk at 6 pm and then come to see me at 6:30 or 7:15 to hear more about our classroom.
- Reading: Our Reading curriculum will begin this week as students discover much through reading Grandma and the Great Gourd. We will also take a closer look at analyzing plot and setting, using text evidence, and using figurative language.
- Writing: As we get into our routine we will be talking about the 3 modes of writing, setting up our writing routine, and learning what to do when we think we are done writing. Additionally we will talk about a grammar piece which includes identifying nouns.
- Math: This is taught by Miss Szydel. Students will begin working with Unit 2 – Use Place Value to Add and Subtract Fluently to 1,000. There are many concepts in this first unit that may be tricky. Bear with the program and be patient.
- Spelling: Each week students will be introduced to ten specific words that have a shared pattern. This week the pattern is the VC/CV pattern. While learning the words is important, it is essential for students to understand the rule. Students will have the chance to work with the words throughout the week. Typically the final test will be on Friday, but due to the short week, it will be Thursday this week.
- Religion: This week we will walk through the creation of man and woman plus the fall into sin.
- Memory Work: Memory work/spelling sheets will be sent home on Monday. Tuesday’s verse corresponds with our Panther Pillar in 1 Corinthians 13:13 while Thursday’s verse pertains to our Bible story in John 3:16.
- Powerful Panther Pillars: This year we will be working through the fruits of the spirit through a variety of means. Our first pillar is LOVE!
- Weekly Quote: So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. – Romans 10:17
