Week of April 14

An amazing week to view God’s splendor!  With the viewing of the solar eclipse this last week, it’s easy to see the majesty in God’s power.  There’s also the saying of “April showers bring May flowers.”  As we daily witness God’s power in creation, let us not forget his power in our daily lives.  Each day is a gift to celebrate and rejoice upon!  May you see His power, majesty, and splendor in each day this week!

  • Shower Your Support For Our New Reading Curriculum! Have you been able to fill your April Reading Curriculum Calendar with donors?  100% of all funds raised will go toward the new curriculum that will be introduced next school year.  Our first initial quote came in at $110,000.  Please find sponsors that will help us reach a goal of raising enough to cover at least 50% of our new curriculum.  Calendars were shared in the 2nd trimester report card packets.
  • Optional Parent/Teacher Conferences: These are schedule for Thursday, April 18th.  As they are optional, please reach out to me if you would like to meet.  I will be reaching out to those that it is necessary to connect with.  I look forward to our time together as is necessary.
  • Reading: Our research unit continues this week.  In collaboration with Science students have finished researching their group animal and will now move on to their own research.  This is an exciting time as students become experts with a particular animals and its habitat.  Our lessons this week will focus on cause/effect, reading closely/thinking deeply, learning to apply developed knowledge, and finding solutions to real-world problems.
  • Writing: Now that students have worked through developing main ideas and supporting details for a class animal and a group animal, they will begin the process for doing it with their own animal using the table-top method to organize their work.
  • Math: Our focus will continue on Unit 9 – Use Multiplication to Divide. Our lessons this week will include dividing by  and multiplying/dividing fluently within 100 plus review and a test which will be on Friday.
  • Spelling: This week our words will focus on words with the long i.  Again this week, I’ll have student working on the same list to prohibit any list manipulation.  We will still have a pretest on Monday with the final test on Friday.
  • Religion: During this week’s lessons, we move backwards a bit and learn about the beginning of Jesus’ ministry through stories of the Wedding at Cana and Nicodemus.  This will allow us to see Jesus life and ministry as he journeyed to the cross.
  • Memory Work: As we follow our weekly routine, Tuesday’s memory will focus on the second part of Luther’s evening prayer.  Thursday’s memory will be Proverbs 26:20 which correlates with our new Friendzy unit.
  • Character Development: This week we will finish Unit 7: Stop the Gossip.  I look forward to each student recognizing how their words affect others in their daily lives.
  • Weekly Quote: Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. – Romans 6:8-11

Social Studies

We will finish with the Caribbean Region this week by talking about the religions.  We will then review for a couple days with their test on Friday.  Study guides will be sent home on Wednesday.

Science

The third grade scientists have been researching about animals in small groups in their reading classes.  Now, each student will have their own animal to research from their designated Biome.  Each student was allowed to choose their animal.  Book resources are slim here at St. Paul, especially with so many doing research at the same time.  A trip to the local library may be very helpful for your little scientist researcher.
