Weekly Update - October 2nd

Weekly Updates

We are very excited to share our musical performance with you this evening.  Please send your child to the Family Life Center at 5:45pm.

Thank you for signing up for Parent Teacher Conferences.  If you still need to sign up, here is the link: St. Paul Lutheran School: Mrs. Behling Parent-Teacher Conferences

Please make sure any donations for the school auction basket are to the classroom by October 9th.

Has your family considered sponsoring a child?  In the Monday folders your youngest child brought home some information about our partnership with Children's Hope Chest.  This mission opportunity will help children and families living in Guatemala.  Read through the information and consider this as a family mission opportunity.

What We Did This Week

Reading: Your child should continue to bring an independent reading book with them that travels back and forth from home to school.  Ideally your child should be spending an average of 20 minutes/evening reading their book.  Reading logs are due on Monday.  Our reading focus in class this unit has been analyzing text features of informational passages and seeing how they help us gain more information and comprehension of the writing.  Our vocabulary quiz will take place on Wednesday, October 7th.

Writing: The kids are working on how to describe the details of their personal narrative in a way that interests the reader and keeps their narratives exciting and easy to follow along.

Math: We finished our addition and subtraction unit.  The kids are learning to be careful readers and precise in their calculations.  I’m very proud of the progress they are making.  We are going to be starting on multiplication and division concepts next week.  Make sure your child is consistently reviewing their multiplication facts if they have not yet mastered them.

Religion: This week we mostly spent this time preparing for our musical this evening.  The focus of our musical is 1 Corinthians 12:12-27.  The church is one body made up of many diverse valuable members.  When we work together, we can do much for God's church.

Spelling: Our next spelling test will be this Wednesday, October 7th.  Our focus is vowel teams and vowel digraphs.

Social Studies: This week we learned about the Native Americans that lived in the Great Plains region.
