Week of May 25th

 

What is 1st Grade Learning? 

Religion

We will read about how Jesus wants us to be good neighbors who love and help others like the Good Samaritan.  We will also learn how just as God has forgiven our sins, he expects us to forgive others instead of being like the Unforgiving Servant found in Matthew 18.                    

Memory:  5th Commandment- You shall not murder.
                7th Commandment- You shall not steal.

Reading

We will continue our camping unit as we compare and contrast different camping stories.  We will also use Camp Read A Lot with Ranger Rita to review reading strategies from the year.

Phonics: Vowel Teams Review

Reading Comprehension Skill:  We will practice retelling stories with characters, setting, and plot (beginning, middle and end)

Spelling: -NO SPELLING!!!

Writing

This week we will write how to make Smores and work on our end of the year Memory Books.  

Grammar:  Noun, verb and adjective review

Math

Unit 13:  Equal Shares – Students will understand equal shares and partition shapes in halves and fourths.  

Science

Light and Heat Energy –  The students will learn about fireflies and work on a heat experiment.    

Social Studies

Unit 5 – Our Nation –  The students will learn about American symbols and take the Unit 5 test.
