Week of January 23rd

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  It was wonderful meeting with each of you with your son or daughter.  I loved hearing from you and your child about all the wonderful things they are doing in 3rd grade.  It has been a wonderful year filled with so much growth.

  • National Lutheran Schools Week: This is my favorite week of the year as we celebrate what makes our school so special.  It is an honor and privilege to be able to talk freely about Jesus each and every day in our school.  Across the country Lutheran schools will be doing fun things in celebration of this gift in Lutheran education.
  • Field Trip Form: On Thursday I sent home a form for a February 8th field trip.  Please return ASAP.  We will be going to Concordia University to watch “The Little Mermaid”.
  • Reading: This week students will be doing a novel study on a wonderful Beverly Cleary book.  We get to meet Ramon in Ramona the Pest.  I love this book and know the student will too.
  • Math: Our lessons this week focus on multiplication with a test on Wednesday.  I will also explain about our multiplication ninjas and how to earn belts as they learn the tables.  This is always a fun time for students as they grow in the math abilities.
  • Spelling: This week’s words will focus on irregular plurals.  You may practice these words on Spelling City using unit 16 which has fun games and activities to learn the words.  https://spellingcity.com/users/Haas
  • Religion: To go along with our National Lutheran Schools week activities, we will be taking a virtual trip to Zambia.  We will explore their culture and how they have learned the Bible plus how we can share with them as well.
  • Writing: Our personal narrative unit will begin.  I know some are continuing to work on their mysteries which will need to be finished.  This week we will start the process of telling a personal story.  I can’t wait to hear some of the strange, funny, and/or unusual experiences the students have had.
  • Memory Work: Tuesday’s memory will include the Old Testament books from last week plus more leading us through Obadiah.  In my email I will include a link for a song that can be used to learn the books.  Students may even sing it when they say it to me if they prefer.  Thursday will be our Zambia Bound verse – Psalm 106:1.  Please see below for memory work.
  • Christian Character Formation Project:Due to National Lutheran Schools Week and our Zambia Bound adventure, we will put CCFP on hold.
  • Weekly Quote: The theme verse for our National Lutheran Schools Week is Colossians 1:17 which says, “And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”

Always in His care,

Mrs. Haas
