Week of August 23rd

Greetings from the Haas 3rd Grade!  I’m so looking forward to our year together as we witness Christ’s Kingdom in Motion!  I look forward to all the excitement and growth that 3rd grade brings.  Thank you for your partnership throughout this year as we focus on excellence while being centered on Christ.

  • First Day of School: As you know our first day is Tuesday, August 25th. This is a full day of school.
  • Healthy Snack/Lunch: Please help your child fuel up appropriately with healthy snacks and lunches.  Avoid sugary drinks and sugary snacks.  If you have further questions, please ask!
  • Panther Parent Back to School Dinner: Don’t cook!  Come on Thursday, August 27th for food and family fun.  Our 8th Grade Families are sponsoring food stations including walking tacos, burgers, BBQ, and more for the evening.  Don’t forget to bring your ice cream coupon given at Orientation Day.  This is a great time of fellowship and good food!
  • Back to School Night: Don’t miss out on learning more about 3rd grade in addition to new information for this school year.  Join me on Tuesday, September 1st at 6 pm where we will get to know each other better and hear about all the exciting things happening at St. Paul.  Meet in the Family Life Center first for information from Mr. Yurk followed by a visit to my classroom for information pertaining to my room.  This is for parents only.
  • Dress Code Reminders: Shorts may be worn through the month of September.  Also athletic shorts are acceptable.  Don’t forget to wear shoes with a back that goes around the heel.
  • Reading: We will be starting the week off as we establish classroom routines and learn about books in the classroom.
  • Writing: Our writing time will include identifying the three purposes of writing: persuade, inform, and entertain as well as creative writing.
  • Math: As we introduce new routines for math, we will complete a pretest and begin our first unit – Math is…. Miss Jenna Szydel will be teaching 3rd grade math while I teach a class in the middle school.
  • Spelling: Spelling will begin after Labor Day.
  • Religion: During this week’s lessons, we will take a look at the story of creation which begins in Genesis 1.
  • Memory Work: We will have memory work every Tuesday and Thursday.  Often I will have students complete a fill in the blank quiz.  We will begin Memory on Thursday 8/27 with our theme verse.
  • Powerful Panther Pillars: This year we will be working through the fruits of the spirit through a variety of means.  Our first pillar is LOVE!
  • Weekly Quote: Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10
