Week of April 4th

Week of April 4th

What is 1st Grade Learning?

Religion

We will read about Jesus calming the storm and Jesus healing a man who couldn’t walk.  We will discuss how Jesus can give us the courage to calm our fears and how he uses his Almighty power to heal us when we are sick.

Virtue of the Week:  SELF-SACRIFICE: God’s power for you to give up something to help others.  Big Question:  How can you be self-sacrificing, even when others criticize you for it?

Memory:  Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Reading

We will learn that readers have big jobs to do when they are the boss of their reading.  We will continue to explore vowel teams (ai, ay, ee, ea, oa, ow, ou and oo) and practice flipping the sound when a word does not make sense.

Phonics: Vowel Teams (ai, ay, ea, ee, ew, ue, oa, ow, ou, oo, oi, oy)

Reading Fluency Skill:  Smoothing out our reading and stopping if a word does not sound right, look right, or make sense.
