“Chickens aren’t the only ones!” We will learn about the animals that hatch from eggs such as penguins, snakes, and other birds. The fancy word we will learn is Oviparous. Even the “Very Hungry Caterpillar” hatches from an egg. We’ll share that story and “Egg” by Kevin Henkes. Watching some live hatching videos will be exciting as well. I have begun hiding a paper egg around the room. After a few days of finding where it is, we will see what “hatches ” from it. It will be fun to act like these Oviparous animals as well.
Jesus time: Our Bible story will be the road to Emmaus, where Jesus appeared to 2 of his disciples as they were walking. At first they did not realize it was him. We will have a song about walking with Jesus such as “Walking in the light of God.”
Outdoor activity extensions include: finding some sticks ( with a grownup’s help) and leaves to make a nest- count out some plastic eggs you might have a place them in the nest, or even pretend you are a bird yourself.
Hide under a blanket/towel and pretend to “hatch” out of an egg.
Birds have to be patient for their eggs to hatch: Talk about what it means to be patient and wait. Set some short timers before a snack or fun activity. God also calls on us to be patient.
