5 Reading: We will continue reading “Crenshaw”.  We will search for details in the story that help us think deeper into our characters actions and feelings. We will talk about Character Traits this week.  Remember to carry your Independent reading book with you always!

5 Writing: We will have a brief assessment on our Patterns of Power capitalization lessons – abbreviations, initials, acronyms and organizations. We will continue to write looking at our Word Choices, Fluency and Voice (what kind of writing it is – Persuasive or Narrative)

5 Vocab: On Monday, vocab books will be handed out and I’ll go over how vocab works in 5th grade. Students can expect 3 pages of homework each week. Homework will be assigned each Monday and always be due on Thursday. Each unit will last two weeks. There will be a vocab quiz that focuses on definitions on the first Friday of the two week unit, and then the vocab unit test will take place on the second Friday of the unit. Since we are kicking off our first unit, I will go through each page this week with the students so that they understand the expectations.

  • HOMEWORK: Pages 10-12 are due Thursday. All words must be written out to receive full credit, and at least 1 page must be written using cursive.
  • QUIZ: Our first quiz will be on Friday. It is 12 multiple choice questions. Students should focus on understanding the meanings of the words for this quiz.
  • RESOURCES: Unit words can be found on Vocab Google Classroom (students will be added to this GC on Monday) and on the sidebar of Mrs. Zvara’s webpage.

6 Reading: We will continue reading “Hatchet”.  3 Stop and Jots per Chapter will be required.  We will focus on Character traits of our characters.

6 Writing: This week we will focus on Word Choice, Sentence Fluency and Voice of the text (what kind of writing it is – Persuasive or Narrative)

6 Vocab:  On Monday, vocab books will be handed out and I’ll go over how vocab works in 6th grade. Similar to last year, each unit will take place over the course of 2 weeks. Book work and a unit quiz will be given the first week of each unit, and a Google Classroom worksheet and unit test will be given the second week. We’ll walk slowly through this first unit together to ensure everyone understands the layout and routine.

  • HOMEWORK: We will begin Unit 1A this week. Pages 15-17 will be due on Thursday. At least 2 pages must be completed in cursive.
  • QUIZ: The Unit 1A quiz will take place Friday.
