Dear 8th Grade Parents and students,
Thank you for your kindness shown to me during teacher appreciation week. I also thank you for all the goodies put out each and every day for all of us. I cannot tell you just how good it feels to be appreciated. Thank you so very much for your thoughtfulness during the week.
Items being sent HOME On Monday: Please look for the homework folder to come home and the last progress report. I thought we already had the “last” progress report. But I was wrong again! Please sign and return. You will also be seeing an order form for the end of the year picnic day which is on Track and Field day. We are hoping to get the orders done early this year. So please return this sheet by May 19.
Graduation Gift: At the end of the year, one of the items we talk about in eighth grade is the eighth-grade class gift. This is a gift given to the school by the eighth-grade class as a parting gift in their memory and another way to say ‘thank you’. Most kids don’t really know what it means to give a class gift. They usually think that once they leave, why should they gift the school with something. So please take a little time to explain to the kids what this means. If you would like to contribute to the class gift, please drop off or send your contribution to the school office or me marked Class of 2026 class gift. We just brought up this topic this week in a short discussion and the students had a few good suggestions. So far, the items mentioned are: new soccer nets, improving the kickball diamond, and pizza ovens for the concession stand. If you would have any ideas of gifts that could be given to our school in the name of the 2026 Graduating Class, then please let me know. I would love to hear your ideas. Finally, if you plan to contribute, please have your contribution in by Friday, May 22. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your support.
MAP TESTING Have you remembered to send back your letter for your child? The Eighth grade will be MAP testing on Wednesday, May 13 after chapel and Thursday, May 14 during reading and English time.
Servant Day is scheduled for June 2. Eighth graders will be helping other teachers do various tasks and chores in their classrooms. Students should wear their class shirts this day. (they may wear their shirts any day, but for sure this day) I am in the progress of organizing lunch for this day. I will be getting that information out to you soon.
Class Picture Day: This Wednesday, we will be taking individual pictures of each eighth grader for the end of the year graduation video. This is a chapel day, so the kids will already be nicely dressed, but some may want to wear a little better than the usual chapel attire. Those pictures will be taken at 2:25 on this day.
Community Service Opportunity: Melissa Meier, a member of St. Paul, is the treasurer for the St. Finbar’s cemetery association. St. Finbar’s is a two acre historic cemetery located in the Town of Saukville, close to where Riveredge nature center is. She is looking for a group that could do a light raking of the grounds. Other volunteers have picked up the larger sticks this last weekend, (there are a lot of trees), but the small sticks and some leaves left from fall need to be raked. Depending on interest and availability, a tentative date for this activity is May 16th. If this is an opportunity for you to offer help for the community service hours, please reach out to Mrs. Yurk. She’ll be in touch with Mrs. Meier.
