From the Desk of Mrs. Schumann Jan. 7-14

Dear 8th Grade Parents and Students,

The eighth graders will be MAP testing this coming week on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:06- 11:29.  Please encourage lots of rest and supply a nutritious snack for break time.

Progress reports were sent home on Monday, January 3.  These need to be signed and returned to school by Monday, January 10.  Thanks.

Wreath Laying Ceremony Paper:  I am pushing back the due date for this paper.  The new due date is March 1. 

A Huge THANK YOU!!  We had a lot of awesome eighth graders step up this week to help fill in for crossing guard duty!  I don’t remember all of your names, but please know I was grateful for your service each and every day you volunteered.  You are the BEST!!!!

Pre-Algebra Students need a calculator.  It is now time for them to bring a calculator to class each day and to take it home at night to help them with their calculations.  I recommend the Texas Instruments Calculator: TI-30XIIS.  It runs $10-$15.  You can probably find it in any big box store.  If you have a different scientific calculator at home, they can bring it.  I am more familiar with the Texas Instrument calculator.  So if your child does not know how to do a certain function on their calculator, they just may have to Google it.  I will help them as much as I can.  Please understand, they will still need to show their work.  Here is an example.  Let’s say they have to find the area of a circle with a radius of 13.  They could use their calculator to square 13 and get 169.  Then write down 169 x 3.14 on their paper, but use the calculator to do the calculation.  Of course, the answer needs to written down.  Hopefully this makes sense.  If you need clarification, call me at school.
