8 English and Writing

Patterns of Power: We’re wrapping up our unit on using the em dash—an effective tool to guide readers, letting them know that the detail before it will be developed further after it. Grammar is a TOOL for effective communication. 🙂
Writing: We began a Words Matter unit, one that asks for brief, but specific explanations. At times good writing requires elaboration; at other times, the topic and the mode requires brevity. Eighth grade practices both!
