We will continue to read A Long Walk to Water together. I’ve been very impressed by the background knowledge that 6th grade has brought from Social Studies to discussion, so I’m excited to see what we make of our reading this week. There will be an open book/open note quiz on Monday (for Wellna homeroom) and Tuesday (for Kell Homeroom).

After we return from Christmas break, we will be doing another book club unit. The focus of this book club draws from our two more recent class novels: A Long Way from Chicago and A Long Walk to Water. Therefore, there are two genres that students can choose from. The focus is to learn about real, historical events/hearing the stories of distinguished figures in history, so the two genre options will be: Historical Fiction OR Narrative Nonfiction. Books must be brought to class on Monday January 3rd. This will be a 5 point grade. An email with more information will be sent out to parents sometime this week.
