For the Week of January 16

Dear Families,

It was a great week and the weather was perfect for winter.

PLEASE SIGN UP FOR P/T ConferencesTHESE WILL BE STUDENT LED. Your student needs to be there.

This Past Week:

This week we began our journey of Moses’s adventures.  We learned about his birth circumstances and how he killed the Egyptian and fled to Midian.  I am using clips from the cartoon Prince of Egypt and the old 1956 movie the Ten Commandments to show some parts of the story.  It might be fun to watch one of those movies at home too.  For Reading, we are getting to the end of our Mystery Unit.  The Jr.. detectives are working on solving cases with input from their crime solving partners.   In Science, we have had so much fun building our pinball machines.  The students have showed many clever skills.  We will wrap up our unit on Force and Motion next week. We are working on our Mystery Stories.  All Final Drafts are due Wednesday, Jan. 19 and they can be submitted for a writing contest.  Details will come home soon.

Next week:

Christian Character Formation Project will read the Parable of the Farmer and the Seed.   Our virtue is DILIGENCE: God’s power for you to focus on your work. We will pose this question: How can you determine to grow a faith that is fruitful?

A peek ahead takes us on the saga of Moses and his journeys.  In math we will begin to prepare for the start of MULTIPLICATION.  (IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE A SET OF FLASH CARDS OF MULTIPLICATION FACTS AT HOME.  Dollar Tree has some.) This is our final week of the Mystery Unit and we will prepare Group presentations to present to our 2nd grade classes! In Science we will wrap up our unit, Force and Motion, and we will complete our Pinball Machines.  We will be able to play each other’s pinball machines at PINBALL MACHINE MANIA on Friday.

Scholastic Book online order: RMQFW Due Date Monday, January 17. Then I will place all online orders.
