March 30th-April 6th
Thanks for joining us for some Family Day fun! We had a room full of trivia masters, scientists, and health experts. I hope you are having a great Spring Break and Holy Week. Enjoy this time and I will see you on Tuesday.
I'm reposting this from last week in case you still need this for End-of-Year Field Trip Information and Waiver!
IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION:
1. FIELD TRIP FEE: Expect a fee of $40 plus bussing - hopefully around $50. Once we have the cost of the bus from the bus company, we will let you know the exact amount.
2. IMPORTANT! Gloves NEEDED to climb: These can be gardening gloves with rubber on the palms, football receiver gloves, batting gloves, or any gloves with a rubber inside the hand. If you cannot provide gloves for your child from home, gloves will be available for purchase at the venue for $6. Please let us know if your child will bring gloves OR if he/she needs gloves with a SUPER QUICK SURVEY HERE. If your child will need gloves, please send $6 cash to school as soon as possible and we will keep it for your child to use on the day of the field trip.
3. WAIVER REQUIRED: Please use the link below to sign the waiver so your child can participate. Thank you.
***Please note that the students will be able to CHOOSE their level of difficulty for the entire 3 hours of climbing. There are low, medium and high ropes courses available to them for 3 hours. They may repeat courses or try new courses throughout the day.
Community Service Hours: Due date is now fast approaching (May 1st). There are forms to fill out online in the "Resources" section that you can turn in anytime. Mr. Yurk has recently updated where we stand on hours for each student.

English
We will wrap up our argument essay outlines that respond to the question: Should 6th graders have cell phones? It might be a good piece of writing to check out! 🙂 Thank you for your patience as I catch up on grading - our compare/contrast essays from our previous unit are now graded and will come home in homework envelopes. Overall, I was super impressed and pleased with those essays and highly encourage you to give your child’s work a read when it comes home. In grammar, we are learning about interrupters.
Health
Math A
This week we will cover these topics: How to use substitution to solve one step equations, and then how solve one step addition equations.
Math B
PE
Welcome back to PE! We have some great activities planned this year.
Reading
We wrapped up our mini-unit on research and the Titanic before break with some fishbowl discussions which were cool! I’ve never done those before, but 6th grade did a great job! When we return from break, we will begin our next class novel, The Watsons go to Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis. This is a historical fiction novel that centers around the Civil Rights movement. We will do a lot of background knowledge building in our first few days back, but I anticipate beginning the novel by the end of the week. We’ll tag along with our main character Kenny as he and his family navigate the life challenges brought to their home in Flint, Michigan.
Religion
April 2-5: This week we will look at the Bible stories of Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene, the road to Emmaus, and Easter evening. Memory will be John 5:22-24, ESV wording, and will be due Thursday. Journal #28 will be due Friday in the google classroom. Sermon note #5 is due Monday, April 8th.
Science
6th Science
This week in 6th science we are learning about Human Impacts on the Environment and Air Pollution. No major tests or assignments this week!
Social Studies
We will be ready to take our India and South Asia test on Thursday, April 4th.
Vocab
We will wrap up unit 9A this week:
- Homework: Google Classroom Worksheet (due Thursday)
- Test: Friday April 5th
- Resources: Unit words can be found on the Vocab Google Classroom
Quarter Class
Computers: This is our final week of computers for the quarter. I can't believe we've been working together for 9 weeks. This week we'll finish Excel Project 2 and will take our final quiz on Thursday.
