 8th note happyGeneral Notes...

1)  ALL Grade K-2 Students will be part of a musical on Friday, Oct. 25 in the morning and later that evening.

TIME: (*Note changes!)
8:45am & 7:00pm - Kind-Scheer, 1-Boyce, & 2-Nelsen
9:45am & 6:00pm - Kind-Nauta, 1-Pingel & 2-Schlichting
PLACE: St. Paul's Sanctuary

*In order to give students a better rehearsal and performing experience, we have decided to split into 2 performing groups. There will be a Kindergarten, First, & Second grade class in each group to allow for a unique experience of working with other ages. Our goal is to give every student a chance to shine with a speaking line as well as singing. Each performance should be about 30 minutes.

2) Gr. K-8 sings at either 9:30 (A-K families) or 11am (L-Z familes & JuBellate) for Reformation.   see more info below...  A new schedule for 2019-20 is available through the online calendar at calendar.splgrafton.org. You can narrow what you see by choosing a group from the dropdown menu or search terms in the box at the top.You will also find the individual group schedules on the MUSIC SCHEDULES page at the right.   Information about individual songs is posted on the Song Lyrics page at the right.

3) Planning ahead...Christmas services for students will be at different times.  Pre-K and Kindergarten will have their services on a Saturday morning, Dec. 14 at either 9 or 10:30 am. Grades 1-3 will have their service on Dec. 11 at 6:30 pm.  Grades 4-8 will have their service Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 6:30 pm. [NOTE the grade split.]

4)Helpers are needed for running powerpoint in chapel/weekend worship services (all year long).    If your 6th grade student (or older) would like to do it, please contact me. There is a sign-up on the church side of splgrafton.org under Servant Ministries and then Media Ministry or go directly at SignUp.com:   http://signup.com/go/8Qfkxv .  With 5 services every weekend, there are many opportunities to serve. The first couple times, it is helpful to have a parent sit with them to assist if necessary. Powerpoints are used, but 10-15 minutes of training will explain the unique aspects of our setup and things to be aware of in worship.

5) Playing piano/instrument for worship is a great way to encourage students to use their gifts for the Lord.  Often classical pieces are  fine to use in worship or there many levels of piano books with hymns and worship songs in them. Pieces should be practiced to their very best so as to assist (not distract) in worship. I want to encourage students of intermediate skill level or higher to aim for playing in church. Students at an elementary skill level can aim to play for chapel services.    Please contact Miss Bremer if you are interested - even if a piece isn't ready or not even chosen yet!

1)    ALL students are scheduled with their class groups to sing in worship throughout the year. Worship and music is a vital part of who we are at St. Paul. It is highly encouraged to join us when kids are scheduled in worship services. They sing as an act of offering to God and service to our supportive congregation.   At orientation each family receives the paper schedule and we also put it online. We understand you may have commitments at your own church as well, but we appreciate the efforts to be part of our school community when we worship together.  Please make it a priority to be there - your children feel most secure when everyone who practiced also shows up to sing.

2) Schedule for Music in worship and other special events   A new schedule for 2019-20 is available through the online calendar at calendar.splgrafton.org. Gr. K-8 Students will sing the year's theme song "The Lord is Near" for outdoor worship on Sun., Sept. 8 at 11am.

It explains our theme for the year of "Made to Reflect". You can find the lyrics and a link to hear it on the  School Theme Song page at the right. We will work on it in music class and homerooms to learn it for the service.

Since it's an outdoor service, bring a blanket or chairs to sit on for the service with your family. The kids will be called up to sing during the offering and then come sit with you again afterward. (in case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the sanctuary). After the service, stay for food, games, and music for everyone at the church picnic!

1)  Wednesday, March 6 is Ash Wednesday.  Ash Wednesday starts the 40 day observance of Lent.  As part of our chapel service, which will be led by Rev. Dr. Timothy Maschke, students will have the option of having a cross of ashes placed on their forehead or hands.  Students can also pass.  Over the next week in religion classes, we will be talking about the significance of the ash mark being placed on us, that we know we are sinners, yet we have the great promise of forgiveness because Jesus died for our sins and resurrected on Easter morning.

2) STUDENTS in Gr. 6-8 will sing "Just as I Am" on Saturday, March 9 for 5pm worship.  We will meet to practice and line up in the church balcony at 4:40pm.   Students will sit together until time to sing (about 5:15) and then go to their families. Song lyrics are available at the right on the Song Lyric page.
