Weekly Update - January 14, 2019

Can you believe we are halfway through January already! The year already seems to be flying by. Here is what will be happening this coming week!

5th Grade
This week we will be talking about God giving His people the Law. God wants us to live in relationship with Him and with one another, and the Law helps us to do this. BUT . . . while Moses was up on Mount Sinai speaking with God and preparing to bring God's Law to the people, the people were building an idol to worship.

Memory Quiz this week - Memory Quiz #18 - January 16th  Exodus 20:1-3 ~ And God spoke all these words, saying, "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. "You shall have no other gods before Me.

Journal this week - Journal #18 - DUE January 18th  God showed His love to the Israelites not only by declaring them His special people, but also by giving them the law. What are the purposes (remember there are three) of the law? How do these purposes help us to follow the law? How does the law help us to love God and love others?

6th Grade
This week we will take a look at another of Jesus' miraculous healings, this time of 10 lepers. We will also talk about Jesus' visit to Mary and Martha's house. This will be the last week of our Love in Action project. If you have the opportunity to talk to your child about how they feel the project is going, please take a few minutes to do so.

Memory Quiz this week - Memory Quiz #18 - January 17th  Luke 17:17-18 ~ Then Jesus answered, "Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?"

Journal this week - Journal #18 - DUE January 18th  God hasn't cured us of leprosy, but He does care and provide for is in many ways. Read the following Scripture passages (Psalm 145:15-16, Psalm 50:15, Romans 8:28, Psalm 91:11, Ephesians 1:7, and John 3:16) and come up with at least four ways God shows He cares and provides for us every day.

7th Grade
This week we will take a look at the Fourth Commandment. Who are the authorities God places in our lives, and why should we obey them? And what is the blessings that comes from honoring our father and mother. We will end the week as we begin looking at the Fifth Commandment -  you shall not murder.

Memory Quiz this week - Memory Quiz #17 - January 17th  Fourth Commandment and Meaning ~ Honor your father and your mother. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not despise or anger our parents and other authorities, but honor them, serve and obey them, love and cherish them.

Journal this week - Journal #17 - DUE January 18th  Are you tired? The body can get worn out after a long day of school, or a full day of fun and play. Our souls can get worn out too, burdened by doubts and guilt and fear. We long for peace and rest. Sabbath is the Hebrew word for "rest". When God invites us to remember the Sabbath, He wants us to enjoy the true rest He offers for the weary souls. Why do you think it is so hard for people to come to find this true rest God offers? How does coming to worship weekly give us rest for our weary body, soul and mind?
