In July of 2008, St. Paul Lutheran School welcomed a new principal, Michael Yurk.
Michael was born and raised in Sheboygan, WI. He attended Christian day school at Trinity Lutheran and graduated from Sheboygan Lutheran High School. After high school Michael attended Concordia University Wisconsin and majored in Secondary Education - Business and computer science with a minor in religion.
His first call after college was to Luther High School North in Chicago. During his 15 years at North he taught business and computer science (15 years), was varsity boys basketball coach (12 years), varsity baseball coach (10 years), athletic director (8 years), recruitment director (5 years) Dean of Students (3 years) and Assistant Principal (2 years). In 2006, Michael received his Masters in Educational Administration from Concordia University Wisconsin.
"Christian education is an important part of our society - especially in today's world. Christian education brings so much more than required curriculum. It is developing spiritual, emotional, physical and social needs of our young students. As educators we are only with our students for a small portion of their lives. However the impact that we get to make on them usually lasts an entire life time. The focal point of my ministry and the mission of St. Paul will continue to be "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6."
Dauna Werner - Three Pre-K
Early childhood education specialist Dauna has nearly 20 years of teaching in Lutheran schools and public day care facilities. She has taught Three Pre-Kindergarten at St. Paul for 14 years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Education, both from Concordia University, Mequon, WI. She has a particular interest in the importance of developing good parenting skills for early childhood parents.
Dauna enjoys sports and outdoor activities such as boating, volleyball and walking, and watching her children participate in their sports activities. She also enjoys her music box and pitcher collections and listening to music.
“God has given me the gifts and talents to create a warm and loving Christ-filled environment where the children are nurtured spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically and academically. This foundation will help the children in their life-long journey of learning and service to Jesus and others.”

Karen Brueggemann - Four Pre-K Five Day
A graduate of Concordia University, River Forest, IL, Karen has taught students in the Primary grades and Pre-Kindergarten classes for all of her 25 years as a teacher. She has taught Four Pre-Kindergarten for 20 years. Karen earned her Master’s degree from Concordia University, Mequon, WI in 2002.
Karen says she loves gardening, running, traveling and spending time with her family.
"The pre-kindergarten classroom is an extension of the educational process that begins and continues at home. My goals are to help children develop a love for Jesus, provide an atmosphere where children feel safe, secure and learn Christian values, and design a curriculum that will help each child grow at his or her own pace.”

Gretchen Huesmann - Four Pre-K Three Day
Mrs. Gretchen Huesmann received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education from Concordia University, River Forest, IL. She has taught preschool in numerous Lutheran and public school in Colorado, Indiana, Washington, and Idaho before joining the staff at St. Paul.
When not teaching preschool, you'll find Gretchen leading women's Bible studies and retreats. She also enjoys singing, reading, writing, gardening, and biking with her family.
"I strive to share the love of Jesus with every child and family I meet. The preschool classroom provides an opportunity to nurture children in their faith, to enhance their educational and social development, and to prepare them for a successful journey of formal learning.”

Christine Klotz - Half-day Kindergarten
Christine Klotz has a Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin. Christine works to incorporate hands-on learning with manipulatives and movement to engross children in learning. She strives to develop reading skills and teach responsibility.
Her interests include spending time with family, volleyball, bowling, and exercising.
"My mission is help my students grow socially, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. Every child is a unique child of God full of potential. I strive to take each student from their point A to point B throughout the school year while sharing the love of God in a Christ-centered atmosphere."

Sue-Lynn Scheer - Kindergarten
For all of Sue-Lynn’s 13 years as a teacher, she has worked with kindergartners. She strives to develop their reading skills and incorporates hands-on activities in each subject to help engage her young students in the learning process. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University, Mequon, WI.
Sue-Lynn enjoys spending time with family, playing volleyball, walking, biking and gardening.
“My mission is to teach children about Jesus and to spread the love of God in all we say and do. It is my goal to help parents bring up their children in a Christ-filled environment, and to provide opportunities for hands-on learning. I want each child to know that they are loved and are a child of God.”
Deanne Boyce - First Grade
Deanne brings a solid academic background and more than a decade of classroom experience in elementary and special education to her role as a First Grade teacher. She strives to have an inviting and exciting classroom with a curriculum that instills an age-appropriate level of responsibility in her students. Being able to bring the Word of God into the curriculum at any point of the day is exciting and uplifting. Deanne has a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education with a LD (learning disabilities) minor from UW-Stevens Point.
Her interests include spending time with her family, gardening, traveling, singing and playing the piano.
"I incorporate the presence of God into our day by reminding the children that we are never alone and are always loved. We build our classroom on respect for each other and love for God.”
Deborah Schlichting - Second Grade
Although the majority of Deborah’s two-decade career in education has been as a teacher in pre-school and the primary grades in Lutheran schools, she has spent four years teaching English as a second language to students of all ages as a LCMS Youth Ministry volunteer to Japan. Deborah has been at St. Paul for thirteen years and is presently teaching second grade. She is a graduate of Concordia University, River Forest, IL, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education with concentrations in English Literature and Theology.
Deborah enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing handbells, camping, hiking, swimming, watching old movies and reading.
“I believe that the purpose of a Christian teacher is to assist parents in carrying out their responsibility to provide a Christian education for their children. . . nurturing those children in my care spiritually, emotionally, academically and physically, encouraging them to achieve their full potential as children of God.”
Linda Radue - Third Grade
St. Paul has been Linda’s first and only teaching assignment. She has been on the staff for 31 years. A specialist in primary education, Linda has taught Third Grade for 22 years and also has taught First and Second Grades. She graduated from Concordia University, River Forest, IL, in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In her spare time she likes to read and go for walks. She sings in the St. Paul Mixed Choir, subs when needed in the St. Paul Handbell Choir , serves on the Altar Guild, and is an offering money counter.
“Christ is the center of all we do at St. Paul and I see my role as equipping the students with the skills they need to be servants in the school community, the church community and in their neighborhoods. My goals are to help my students treat each other with Christian love, to become more independent and to master basic math facts.”
Donna Thiede - Fourth Grade
Donna has a Bachelor of Science degree from Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska. She has taught for 29 years in Lutheran schools, first at St. Paul in Sedalia, MO, and for the last 27 years at St. Paul, Grafton. She has specialized in Grades Three, Four and Five for her entire career and has taught Fourth Grade for the past 20 years.
In her spare time Donna enjoys cooking, sewing and watching sports.
“It is my privilege to serve the Lord by teaching and ministering to the children that God has placed before us. It is my ministry to prepare them - both academically and spiritually - for what God has in store for their lives. My goals are to fill my students with the knowledge and love of God, prepare them academically for fifth grade, and help them develop an appreciation for the State of Wisconsin in the context of the fourth grade curriculum.”
Rose Meier - Fifth Grade and Learning Center
A teacher for over 28 years, Rose has taught at Lutheran schools in Minnesota, Oklahoma and Wisconsin with a focus in primary grades, and art for Grades One to Eight. For the past 16 years she has taught Fifth Grade and Remedial Reading at St. Paul. Rose is currently St. Paul's Learning Center Director. She assists both remedial and enrichment students reach their academic goals. Rose has a Bachelor of Science degree from Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska and a Master’s degree in Reading and Learning Disabilities from Cardinal Stritch University, Wisconsin.
Rose is interested in art and antiques.
“God has given us an exceptional responsibility to care for His children, and as teachers our job is to teach children about God and the world He has given us. All children deserve and need a quality education. As teachers, it is our responsibility.”
Jamie Fisher- Fifth Grade, Physical Education and Health
Jamie was born and raised in Ocala, Florida where he attended St. John Lutheran School from K-3 to 12th grade. After attending a community college for a year, he missed the family atmosphere of Lutheran education and decided to attend Concordia University Wisconsin. In December of 2010 he received a Bachelor's Degree in Physical and Health Education.
Jamie's favorite activities include watching and participating in sports, working out, playing guitar, listening to music, riding bicycles, and spending time with family and friends.
"I want my students to create, improve, and maintain a healthy lifestyle that glorifies God and the abilities that He has blessed them with."
AJ Wellna - Sixth Grade and Social Studies
St. Paul welcomes Mr. Wellna as a new staff member here. A.J. earned a Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University-Wisconsin in 2009. He student taught at St. Paul and at Random Lake High School. He also taught 6th grade for a semester and subbed for a semester last year at Badger Middle School in West Bend. He is presently teaching social studies for Grades Five through Eight.
Some of his interests include family, friends, sports, music, and spending time outside.
"My mission is to teach all students about the world that God has given us and to combine social studies lessons with Christianity so students can apply social studies to their daily lives."
Jeremy Kell - Fifth Grade and Science
In his 12 year as a teacher, Jeremy is a member of the Middle School staff, teaching Science for Grades Fifth to Eight. His mission is to give his students a good understanding of the Earth, Life and Physical Sciences. He encourages students to become involved at school and strives to make school a place where they like to be. Jeremy has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Secondary Education from Concordia University, Mequon, WI.
In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities.
“I want to provide the best Christ-centered education I can with all the different resources available to me. I incorporate hands-on activities because I believe students better understand what they can touch and see. One of my goals is to help students develop a love for science and to see how important it is to their life and their faith.”
Kevin Kolander - Seventh Grade and English
In his 25 year teaching career Kevin has, at different times, taught Grades Three through Eight. He is presently teaching English for Grades Five to Eighth in our Middle School program and is developing a comprehensive writing and grammar curriculum for those grade levels. He also serves as assistant athletic director and assistant principal. A graduate of Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, Kevin also has a Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin.
“As a Christian teacher, it is my purpose to bring glory, honor and praise to my Lord by the life I lead and to build up, empower and encourage children of God to grow closer in their walk with Christ, and to assist those in my school family to maximize their blessings as an expression of thanks and praise to our Savior.”
Diane Schumann - Eighth Grade and Math
Diane has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concordia University, Mequon, WI, and 25 years of experience. For the last decade, she has specialized in teaching Middle School. She is presently teaching math, literature and art in a departmentalized setting for Sixth to Eighth Grades and is the Eighth Grade homeroom teacher. One of Diane’s goals is to help her students realize that Math is a useful tool in everyday situations. She also enjoys planning and leading the yearly Eighth grade trip to Washington DC and serving as co-editor of the school yearbook.
At home, Diane enjoys spending time with her husband and children, working in her flower gardens, exploring new cookbooks, sewing and walking her dog.
“All children have different learning styles and it’s my responsibility to find out how each child learns best…While it is important to reach students academically, it is equally important to help them grow socially strong and emotionally stable...And the ability to reach a student on a spiritual level is the most awesome part of teaching.”
Valerie Bremer - Music and Choirs
In her thirteen years as a teacher, Valerie has focused on Music Ministry, but has taught a variety of subjects with math being her next favorite class. Valerie joined the St. Paul family in 2004 as the Music Director for the church and school. Her mission is to help students understand and use the elements of music, recognize and explore music as part of their personal expression, imagination and culture and encourage them to use their own God-given musical abilities in joyful worship.Valerie has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Concordia University, Seward, NE, and is working toward a Master’s in Church Music from Concordia University, Mequon, WI.
Valerie says she enjoys playing piano just for fun, traveling, playing with her dog, and reading.
“As a servant leader, my task is to teach and prepare young people for their own acts of service to God, supporting their relationship with Christ and encouraging a love of learning through a variety of tools and strategies.”
Dawn’s three-decade career and her outside interests can be summed up in one word: Music. Teaching it, playing it and sharing it. Dawn has been the Director of the Fifth Grade Band for six years and Sixth to Eighth Grade Band for the past fifteen years at St. Paul. She also gives private lessons to students in Grades Three to Twelve. Her goal is to help her students learn to appreciate and perform all different forms of music and to teach them the history and theory of each composition they perform.
Dawn performs on flute and piccolo with the Lakeshore Symphonic Band and also plays the flute for weddings, church services and at retirement homes. She is also the director of the St. Paul Flute Choir.
"I strive to help my students understand that their musical talents come from our Father above and to always use those talents to give Him all the praise and glory.”
Peggy Kegley - IMC Director
Peggy is presently the director of the Instructional Materials Center -- the school librarian. She also teaches Fifth and Sixth Grade Spelling and Seventh Grade Current Events. A teacher for 19 years, Peggy’s experience includes teaching Grades One through Six. She also serves as Public School Religious Instruction Superintendent, Sunday School Superintendent and as Co-superintendent of the Vacation Bible School program. Peggy has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. She has done graduate study at both the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and at Cardinal Stritch University.
Peggy says she enjoys any time she spends with her family, in addition to attending her children’s athletic and school events, and working with the Sunday School, PSRI and Vacation Bible School ministries at St. Paul.
"A Christ-centered education is essential as we work to further His kingdom. With the aid of the Holy Spirit, teachers help students realize and use their God-given talents and abilities to explore the physical world, as well as help them to gain knowledge and skills in the spiritual, academic and social aspects of their lives. Working and learning in a place where Jesus and His Word are welcome is most important. At the end of each day if we have grown closer to God and proclaimed salvation through Jesus Christ then it has been a successful day.”
