PTFL Minutes
January 12, 2012
Attending: Shari Buske, Shelly Miller, Kerri Wiertzema, Michelle Zentner, Dana Pegelow, Julie Lemke, Krysta Pospichal, Renae Miracle, Deanne Boyce, Janette Marien, , and Michael Yurk
I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:37 pm.
II. Previous Minutes: Reviewed minutes from December meeting. It was moved to accept the minutes.
III. Officer’s Report: a. Treasurer: Account information has been turned over to Nicole.
IV. Room Parent Reports
a. Mrs. Klotz/Mrs. Wilman: Mrs. Klotz returns the 23rd. The room parents are planning a Thank You event for Mrs. Wilman.
b. Mrs. Schlichting: Will be celebrating a milestone birthday soon!
V. Old Business
a. The Giving Tree- went well; we received many donations for Advocates. Also, Pastor Wendorf and Pastor Prahl’s additional families in need were also covered.
b. Alterra Fundraiser
i. 38 families participated, $1,127.31 compared to the Citrus sale (2010 totals: 41 families/ $732.90) that this replaced.
ii. Possibly will have this at a different time during the school year.
c. AR Store-At the December meeting $500 was approved for funding.
VI. New Business
a. Trivia Night- Jan 20 Joy and Shari
i. Registration will be extended to Monday.
ii. Concessions and childcare by the 8th grade.
iii. Bake Off registration is due Friday the 13th. Only have 2 participants so far.
iv. Volunteers:
1. Runners: Dana and Michelle
2. Judges: Julie and possibly Kerri
3. MC: Mr. Yurk
4. Scoring: Shari and Joy
5. Music: Nicole’s Friend
b. Scholastic Book Fair – Jan 22nd-29th
i. Volunteer for 24-25th: Kerri
c. Open House/Registration- Jan 24th and 25th
i. Kerri will pop popcorn and have water available.
d. PJ Party- Feb 3rd Noelle Stuelpner
i. Needs Volunteers
e. Interest Day- March 2nd
i. Snack for volunteers- Requested water and bagged snack.
f. Lutheran Schools Week March 4-10
g. Family Day – March 9th
h. Provide breakfast items and coffee before chapel.
i. March Madness- Mr. Wellna
i. Will accept any offers for help from PTFL.
j. Rummage/Bake Sale - April 28th.
i. Will reserve room
k. Teacher Appreciation- May 7-11th
l. Middle School Lock In – May 18th – Michelle
i. Possibly have a dance as part of the evening if a DJ can be found that fits the budget.
m. 8th Grade Graduation – June 1
i. PTFL donates money for this event.
n. An ad for the PTFL will be placed in the tournament program.
o. Red Ribbon Week
i. Money will be given for the pizza party.
p. Updates From Mr. Yurk
i. Routine audit of PTFL account will be taking place soon.
ii. Estimates are being obtained for adding a drop down screen in the FLC, projector, and updated speaker system. Possibly have Family Movie Nights?
iii. Mr. Yurk is donating the remainder of his Christmas gift money to the day care to help pay for a homework table. The motion was passed for the PTFL to donate money to cover the remainder of the cost.
q. Discussion of Reorganizing PTFL- Mr. Yurk
i. How to get more involvement and interest
ii. Suggestion was made to have 5 core leaders that each chair one of five large events. Will still require treasurer and secretary role.
iii. Possibly may need to add back a communication role to manage emails etc. or have a board member alternate these responsibilities.
iv. Possibly reduce the number of meetings to every other month; leadership board meets on alternate months.
v. Add an educational portion for parents to the meeting. (Topic suggestions: Safe guarding computers, Parenting Skills, Sexting, etc.)
vi. Clearer expectations of room parents and their involvement.
vii. Better communication between PTFL and parents- Possibly have a schedule of events at the beginning of the year highlighting which events are sponsored by what classes.
viii. Possibly include schedule and/or definition of the room parent role in the July mailing.
ix. Any elections have been postponed; will continue the discussion at the next meeting.
r. Shari sent out an email regarding getting recycling bins for the FLC.
