Rosetta Stone:
Just a reminder, students are required to work on Rosetta Stone one 30 minute class period during school and 18-20 minutes at home. The week will run from Monday to Sunday. I would like them to keep repeating the lessons until they reach between 90-100%. Students do NOT need to repeat the entire lesson, he or she may correct only the red ones. Also, he or she doesn't need to wait till the end, you can click the slide at the bottom and go back and redo it right away.
Jesus Time:
In Jesus Time, we will be talking about "Zacchaeus".
Reading Street:
In Reading, we will be doing unit 4.1. Our big book is "Rooster's Off to See the World". We will be reading our story in Mrs. Scheer's Kindergarten room. We will be learning about the letter "Hh" this week. We will be listening for the /h/sound at the beginning and blending words together. It is very important to work on blending and sounding out words and read short stories. Continue to use the take home books, oral reading homework, and sight word books on our pearson website as tools! They have made such great progress already:)
We will practice our sight words: I, am, little, the, a, to, is, have, we, my, like, for, he, with, she, me, look, see, you, of, they, are, that, and do.
Continue to log on to the Pearson website to check out and practice reading our sight word books for this unit. Students will practice reading sight words mixed in with other text and sound out small words. There are picture clues to help them read the harder words, but they may need some help with those.
During the week, your child will get a 1/2 homework sheet to work on. It will be working on the letter sound for the week or additional skills we are working on at school. Homework will be sent home Monday-Thursday. Be looking for this in your child's folder on the "Return to School" side. Complete homework with pencil and return it to school the next day. Every Thursday, your child will get an oral reading to practice with you. Please take time to identify words that were missed. This is great practice and they are really doing a great job and excited about reading:)
Math:
In Math this week, we will be learning about nickels and counting by 5's to 50, ordering numbers 1-10, beginning addition, ABC patterns, and discussion direction words such as right, left, top, and bottom. We started playing the card game WAR last week. This week we will get to use the face cards:)
Social Studies:
This week we will wrap up "Why We Work" and begin talking about "Our Earth."
On Friday, we will be starting our Valentine's Day post office. We will be addressing our cards, mailing them, and delivering them to the correct boxes. We will talk about how things work in the post office and practice our addresses during our morning message time.
READ!
We will be beginning a special reading program this week. It will last all year. I call it "Let's Read." All if you have to do is read a book with your child and fill out a reading coupon. For every 25 books your child reads, he or she will get to pick a free book from me to add to their library. If you need more coupons, you can find them on top of my file cabinet or send a note to school for more.
BOOK IT!
This month, we will start Book It! Each child has a chance to earn a coupon for a personal pizza from Pizza Hut. This is voluntary! If your child fills in the reading sheet for the month of October, he/she will receive a coupon from me. The books you read may count for both Book It and my classroom Let's Read program. Please return your "Book It" form by February 29, to receive your pizza coupon!
Snack:
I have assigned a child to bring in snack for the WEEK. The snack list rotation can be found on our fast direct calendar. Please bring in enough snack for 9 children. Please try to make your snacks healthy choices. NO CANDY PLEASE! You may include a drink for the class if you wish during your week. We do have a PEANUT & TREE NUT ALLERGY. Please read the labels on your snack to make sure it does NOT contain peanuts or tree nuts. On your child's birthday a special treat may be brought in. Also, if your child's snack needs spoons or forks please send those along. Thank you!
Surprise Reader:
I will have sign up sheet available to sign up for SURPRISE READERS to come and read to our class at the end of the day on Fridays. This is supposed to be a surprise for our class, so try and keep it a secret. Encourage grandparents to sign up as well. This will be posted outside my classroom door. This is a fun way to get to know the children in your child's class and to get involved at St. Paul. It will be every other Friday from 11-11:15. Dates are also posted on the fast direct calendar.
Communication:
I will update my webpage weekly by Sunday night. Please be sure to check my webpage weekly for important news and updates. In addition, make sure you are checking my fast direct calendar for special Kindergarten dates for the months ahead. The Echo is the weekly St. Paul newsletter. Important news and information for school is printed there. The Echo can be found through the school webpage under School Publications. Let me know if you are having any problems finding these!
God's Blessings,
~Mrs. Klotz~
